Weather Analysis And Forecasting by Christo Georgiev

Original Title: Weather Analysis And Forecasting

Weather Analysis and Forecasting: Applying Satellite Water Vapor Imagery and Potential Vorticity Analysis, Second Edition, is a step-by-step essential training manual for forecasters in meteorological services worldwide, and a valuable text for graduate students in atmospheric physics and satellite meteorology. In this practical guide, P. Santurette, C.G. Georgiev, and K. Maynard show how to interpret water vapor patterns in terms of dynamical processes in the atmosphere and their relation to diagnostics available from numerical weather prediction models. In particular, they concentrate on the close relationship between satellite imagery and the potential vorticity fields in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. These applications are illustrated with color images based on real meteorological situations over mid-latitudes, subtropical and tropical areas. Presents interpretation of the water vapor channels 6.2 and 7.3μm as well as advances based on satellite data to improve understanding of atmospheric thermodynamics Improves by new schemes the understanding of upper-level dynamics, midlatitudes cyclogenesis and fronts over various geographical areas Provides analysis of deep convective phenomena to better understand the development of strong thunderstorms and to improve forecasting of severe convective events Includes efficient operational forecasting methods for interpretation of data from NWP models Offers information on satellite water vapor images and potential vorticity fields to analyse and forecast convective phenomena and thunderstorms

English Algorithmic Grammar by Hristo Georgiev

Original Title: English Algorithmic Grammar

The ultimate goal of Computational Linguistics is to teach the computer to understand Natural Language. This research monograph presents a description of English according to algorithms which can be programmed into a computer to analyse natural language texts. The algorithmic approach uses series of instructions, written in Natural Language and organised in flow charts, with the aim of analysing certain aspects of the grammar of a sentence. One problem with text processing is the difficulty in distinguishing word forms that belong to parts of speech taken out of context. In order to solve this problem, Hristo Georgiev starts with the assumption that every word is either a verb or a non-verb. From here he presents an algorithm which allows the computer to recognise parts of speech which to a human would be obvious though the meaning of the words. Emphasis for a computer is placed on verbs, nouns, participles and adjectives. English Algorithmic Grammar presents information for computers to recognise tenses, syntax, parsing, reference, and clauses. The final chapters of the book examine the further applications of an algorithmic approach to English grammar, and suggests ways in which the computer can be programmed to recognise meaning. This is an innovative, cutting-edge approach to computational linguistics that will be essential reading for academics researching computational linguistics, machine translation and natural language processing.

Language Engineering by Hristo Georgiev

Original Title: Language Engineering

Language Engineering examines the processes involved in dictionary-making, parsing, spell-checking, lexical semantics, machine translation, question answering and text attribution. The dictionary-building and natural language processing techniques examined are applicable to most languages, and the book includes extensive examples in English, French and German. This book is the first detailed description of morphology, syntax and semantics using the C(C++) programming language, and as such should be essential reading for researchers in natural language processing and computational linguistics.

Dictionary Of Word Meanings by Hristo Georgiev

Original Title: Dictionary Of Word Meanings

We have rules how the words should be spelled, but we have never had standardisation of meanings. Such a standardisation is long overdue considering the rapid development of Natural Language Processing in general and natural language based Artificial Intelligence in particular. The word meanings presented in this book are the building blocks of natural language based artificial intellect. Because many words have the same meaning, a programmer would use a code for this meaning when making a rule, rather than listing each time the words that have it. The codes show the difference, the similarity or the identity between meanings. The codes connect words that mean the same thing but are spelled differently. Therefore a need has arisen to pin-point the meanings and to assign codes to them. The present book attempts to answer just this need. As such, it is more like a reference book, a type of dictionary of meanings, needed also in teaching lexical semantics to students at various levels.

Fundamentals Of Computer Programming With C by Svetlin Nakov

Original Title: Fundamentals Of Computer Programming With C

The free book "Fundamentals of Computer Programming with C#" is a comprehensive computer programming tutorial that teaches programming, logical thinking, data structures and algorithms, problem solving and high quality code with lots of examples in C#. It starts with the first steps in programming and software development like variables, data types, conditional statements, loops and arrays and continues with other basic topics like methods, numeral systems, strings and string processing, exceptions, classes and objects. After the basics this fundamental programming book enters into more advanced programming topics like recursion, data structures (lists, trees, hash-tables and graphs), high-quality code, unit testing and refactoring, object-oriented principles (inheritance, abstraction, encapsulation and polymorphism) and their implementation the C# language. It also covers fundamental topics that each good developer should know like algorithm design, complexity of algorithms and problem solving. The book uses C# language and Visual Studio to illustrate the programming concepts and explains some C# / .NET specific technologies like lambda expressions, extension methods and LINQ. The book is written by a team of developers lead by Svetlin Nakov who has 20+ years practical software development experience. It teaches the major programming concepts and way of thinking needed to become a good software engineer and the C# language in the meantime. It is a great start for anyone who wants to become a skillful software engineer. The books does not teach technologies like databases, mobile and web development, but shows the true way to master the basics of programming regardless of the languages, technologies and tools. It is good for beginners and intermediate developers who want to put a solid base for a successful career in the software engineering industry. The book is accompanied by free video lessons, presentation slides and mind maps, as well as hundreds of exercises and live examples.
