The Combinatorial Index by Barry A. Bunin

Original Title: The Combinatorial Index

With the explosion of combinatorial solid-phase methods, access to information has become one of the main barriers facing a synthetic chemist who is contemplating a combinatorial approach to a medicinal chemistry problem. The Combinatorial Index is an answer to that problem. This compendium of methods from the primary literature provides quick and convenient access to reliable synthetic transformations as well as information on linkers and analytical methods. Each synthetic procedure is preceded by a section entitled"Points of Interest,"which highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the various studies. The index also covers the use of solution-based synthesis for the generation of molecular diversity. Organized for rapid retrieval of published information on classes of synthetic transformations, linkers, and analytical methods Serves as a laboratory manual for bench chemists Includes a chapter on linkers to assist in choice of linking strategy Discusses strengths and limitations of the various methods Contains a structural index showing functional group transformations in solid-phase synthesis

Topology by Solomon Lefschetz

Original Title: Topology

Lefschetz's Topology was written in the period in between the beginning of topology, by Poincare, and the establishment of algebraic topology as a well-formed subject, separate from point-set or geometric topology. At this time, Lefschetz had already proved his first fixed-point theorems. In some sense, the present book is a description of the broad subject of topology into which Lefschetz's theory of fixed points fits. Lefschetz takes the opportunity to describe some of the important applications of his theory, particularly in algebraic geometry, to problems such as counting intersections of algebraic varieties. He also gives applications to vector distributions, complex spaces, and Kronecker's characteristic theory.

Branch And Bound Applications In Combinatorial Data Analysis by Michael J. Brusco

Original Title: Branch And Bound Applications In Combinatorial Data Analysis

This book provides clear explanatory text, illustrative mathematics and algorithms, demonstrations of the iterative process, pseudocode, and well-developed examples for applications of the branch-and-bound paradigm to important problems in combinatorial data analysis. Supplementary material, such as computer programs, are provided on the world wide web. Dr. Brusco is an editorial board member for the Journal of Classification, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Classification Society of North America.

Combinatorial Enumeration by Ian P. Goulden

Original Title: Combinatorial Enumeration

This graduate-level text presents mathematical theory and problem-solving techniques associated with enumeration problems. Subjects include the combinatorics of the ordinary generating function and the exponential generating function, the combinatorics of sequences, and the combinatorics of paths. The text is complemented by approximately 350 exercises with full solutions. 1983 edition. Foreword by Gian-Carlo Rota. References. Index.

Original Title: Combinatorial Pattern Matching

The papers contained in this volume were presented at the 18th Annual S- posium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching (CPM 2007) held at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, Canada from July 9 to 11, 2007. All the papers presented at the conference are original research contri- tions on computational pattern matching and analysis, data compression and compressed text processing, su?x arrays and trees, and computational biology. They were selected from 64 submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least three reviewers. The committee decided to accept 32 papers. The p- gramme also included three invited talks by Tao Jiang from the University of California, Riverside, USA, S. Muthukrishnan from Rutgers University, USA, and Frances Yao from City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. Combinatorial Pattern Matching addresses issues of searching and matching stringsandmorecomplicatedpatternssuchastrees, regularexpressions, graphs, point sets, and arrays. The goal is to derive non-trivial combinatorial properties of such structures and to exploit these properties in order to either achieve superior performance for the corresponding computational problems or pinpoint conditions under which searches cannot be performed e?cientl
